An unnamed 14-year-old boy who reportedly killed Ava White, a 12-year-old girl, has been charged with murder and sent back into custody to await trial. The 12-year-old had suffered severe injuries when she was assaulted at the Liverpool city centre last Thursday.

The court had charged the teenager, whose identity was not released for legal reasons, with being in possession of a bladed weapon.

He is expected to appear at the Liverpool Crown Court on Wednesday.

The Merseyside Police in its report said the teenager was arrested alongside three other boys but the other boys have been allowed conditional bail as extensive investigation into the matter continues. The police advised that people should desist from posting comments or names on social media that could jeopardise their efforts to get justice for Ava’s family.

Meanwhile, as forensic officers and the police comb the scene, residents showed their sympathy as they laid flowers on Church Street in tribute to the deceased, who was described as a lively, loving and caring child.
