President of the African Development Bank (AfDB), Dr Akinwunmi Adeshina, has publicly rejected the public clamour on him to vie for Nigeria’s Presidency saying his current responsibilities at the AfDB would not allow him to accept such propositions.

This rejection follows shortly after a support group of Nigerians in the diaspora bought and submitted the All Progressives Congress (APC)’s presidential nomination form for Dr Adeshina.

Adeshina expressed that he is deeply honoured, humbled and grateful for all the goodwill, kindness and confidence by his supporters urging him to contest for Nigeria’s Presidency in the coming year but his current responsibilities at this time do not allow him to accept such an undertaking.

In a statement, Dr Adeshina stated that he remains fully engaged and committed to the mission that Nigeria, Africa and all the non-African shareholders of the African Development Bank have committed to his hands for Africa’s development.

He added that his current responsibilities at the bank would not allow him to contest for the presidency.

Adeshina stated further that he is fully focused on the mission of supporting the accelerated development and economic integration of Africa.

May God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria. May God bless Africa, he added.
