Following relaxation of the COVID-19 pandemic lockdowns imposed by Nigeria’s government, an increase was witnessed in economic activities and in the aviation sector in the first nine months of 2021.

In 2020, an output in the aviation sector was recorded at N114.2 billion while the sector rose to N146.6 billion between January and September this year.
This shows there was an increase of N32.2 billion in the aviation sector which contributed to the country’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) under the reviewed period.

The National Bureau of Statistics has however categorised Aviation or air transport as one of the sub-sectors under the transport and storage sector. Other sectors include the Road transport, rail transport, water transport, transport services and post & courier services.

It was reported during the review period that the contribution of the transport and storage sector to the GDP was pegged at N2.4 trillion which was occasioned by the economic performance of road transportation valued at N2.2 trillion, while air transport was valued at N146.6 billion and transport services at 62.4 billion.
