Meta Platform Inc., formerly known as Facebook, has announced in a tweet that users can now make cryptocurrency payments through Novi wallet on its messaging app, WhatsApp.

This move came after David Marcus who was leading Meta’s Diem project announced that he would leave the company at the end of the year.

Cryptocurrency payments on WhatsApp will be supported by Novi which is Meta’s digital wallet with payments made in Pax Dollars as the social media giant lean heavily into the crypto space.

Using Novi does not change the privacy of WhatsApp personal messages and calls.

The company has been working on the wallet app for several months, while scaling back its global plans for rolling out a digital currency called Diem due to regulatory concerns.
