This year is a catastrophic year for Burgundy as the extreme weather has left the growers struggling to produce enough grapes as Burgundy relies heavily on its grape harvest.

The weather forecasts have warned of a sudden and unseasonable drop in temperature. For three nights, the winemakers stayed up in their vine yard to burn candles in a desperate attempt to save their crops.

Their effort was however, in vain as temperatures dropped so low that in some parts, half of the crop was lost and France had to declare an agricultural disaster.

The President of the Federation of the Burgundy Wine House said that the three-night frost cost the region €1 billion ($1.1 billion). He added that the loss is a very heavy one for the small region but life moves on as the company projects to pick more grapes at the next harvest which comes up in 10 months.
