A giant black box perched on a granite plain is about to be created in Australia to record all climate change actions.

The box which won’t be completed until next year will tell future civilizations how humankind created the climate crisis. Hard drives have begun recording algorithm-based findings and conversations since the COP26 climate summit.

The box will be filled with a mass of storage drives and will constantly download scientific data from the internet, all powered by solar panels on the structure’s roof. Batteries will also be provided for backup power storage.
The box will collect measurements of land and sea temperatures, ocean acidification, atmospheric CO2, species extinction, land-use changes, as well as things like human population, military spending and energy consumption.
It will also collect contextual data such as newspaper headlines, social media posts, and news from key events like Conference of the Parties (COP) and climate change meetings. The idea is if the Earth does crash as a result of climate change, this indestructible recording device will be there for whoever’s left to learn from.

Once activated, the library of climate data will become accessible through an online platform and politicians can be held accountable on how they tackle the changing climate.

As the climate crisis persists, the box may provide a blueprint to a solution many years from now.
