Goggle has announced that it would invest 1 billion dollars into Australia over the next five years. This move is Goggle’s biggest investment ever since over two decades of its existence in Australia.

The company’s CEO, Sundar Pichai explained that part of the funds will go towards launching the firm’s first research hub in Australia, as well as helping to develop the nation’s cloud computing sector.

The company also revealed its plan to join effort with an Australian government agency on scientific research which will include projects on clean energy and protection of the Great Barrier Reef. It also added that the firm will partner with a local university on quantum computing.

With the outlined plan to turn Australia into a top digital economy by 2030, Australian Prime Minster Scott Morrison, said that Goggle’s program would help create more than 6,000 jobs and add about 6.7 billion Australian dollars of value to the economy.
