The parliament of Antigua and Barbuda have reportedly confirmed the citizenship of Nigerian couple Bamise Samson Ajetunmobi and his wife Elizabeth, who fled the country after allegedly using their company, Imagine Lenders, to scam numerous persons and organisations of billions of Naira.

It is believed that the couple deceived people with Public Relations videos of what their company had been doing to boost businesses of poor traders and by organising various leadership training programmes. These gestures made many people and organisations to invest huge sums of money in their company with the expectation of reaping bountifully within a space of time.

Like many ponzi schemes, the first set of investors were paid as at when due and this encouraged more people to commit to the scheme. As word began to spread about the company and its investment programme, many more customers trooped to them with their hard earned money.

However, rather than bountiful harvest, it was lamentation galore that the investing customers got as the couple failed to meet up with payments and fled the country with customers’ money when the heat became too much.

Although, the authorities in Antigua and Barbuda have expressed that systems are in place to ensure that the nation does not become a refuge for criminals, many people fear that with the reported confirmation of issuance of asylum to the couple by the twin-island Caribbean nation, they may have suceeded in escaping from the long arm of the law.
