Nigerian Communications Commission projects to generate N632.39B from the sale of 5G spectrum to telecommunication firms. This was disclosed by the Executive Vice Chairman of the agency, Prof. Umar Danbatta at the National Assembly joint committee meeting where he defended the commission’s 2022 budget proposal.

Each slot of the 5G spectrum is expected to go out for N75 bilion. However, it can go as high as N100 bilion in an auction.

For the commission’s main budget, a sum of N86.2 billion is proposed for recurrent expenditures, N29.36 billion for Capital expenditure and N2.55 billion for Special Projects.

Addressing the fears expressed in some quarters about the 5G technology, Danbatta assured Nigerians of the safety of their health with the network. He enjoined them to disabuse their minds on the purported harmful effect of the spectrum.

He stated further that the 5G technology was good for the economy and the nation’s social transformation.

The Executive Vice Chairman also disclosed that with the recent launch of the Computer Incidence Response Team which, telecommunication networks across the country are secured against all forms of cyber-attacks.
