Nigeria has reportedly gained N100.65 billion from the export of airplanes and helicopters to Ghana in the outgoing year despite its inability to manufacture vehicles or aircraft.

In a report released by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS), it stated that in the three quarters of 2021, Nigeria exported helicopters to Ghana with an increased amount of money made in the manufacturing sector.

The reported analysis revealed that the first quarter had the highest amount with N71.1 billion realized, while 16.65 billion was made in the second quarter and the third quarter with a N12.9 billion figure.

In the previous year, a total sum of N43.7 billion was realised which means there was an increase of over 60 billion in the current year.

However, this was as a result of Ghana not purchasing aircrafts in the second and third quarter of 2020.

The Head, Public Affairs and International Relations of NBS, Mr Sunday Joel Ichedi, stated that the reason why Nigeria is an exporter of aircraft is due to the purchase of used aircraft from the country and re-exportation of aircrafts that were first brought into Nigeria because the exporter has an office in Nigeria that serves West Africa as a whole.

Similarly, Ichedi noted that the exports also indicate that some of the aircrafts were used in Nigeria before being sold to Ghana then it becomes an export commodity.
