Nigeria has reportedly lost billions of dollars as a consequence of the non-implementation of the Cargo Tracking Note (CTN).

Executive Director, Citizens Advocacy for Social and Economic Rights (CASER), Frank Tietie, disclosed in an appeal to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) that corrupt importers caused the default in implementation.

Tietie further noted that if corrupt individuals who poorly managed the system are permitted to further run the operations of a new Cargo Tracking Note scheme, there might be severe implications on security and the economy.
However, the basis for the petition calls for immediate and judicious investigation by the financial crimes board.

The Cargo Tracking Note (CTN), otherwise called Electronic Cargo Tracking Note is used to safeguard and monitor the movement of the cargo by the sea.
