The Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Isa Pantami, has announced that the Federal Government has extended the deadline for the National Identification Number (NIN)-Subscriber Identity Module (SIM) data verification till 31st of March, 2022.

The extension of the deadline is reportedly based on request by stakeholders, citizens, legal residents and Nigerians in the diaspora.

According to a statement signed by the Director Public Affairs, Nigerian Communications Commission, Dr Ike Adinde, and the Head of Corporate Communications, National Identity Management Commission, Mr Kayode Adegoke, as at 30th December 2021, the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has issued 71 million NINs at over 14,000 enrolment centres across the country.

It was further disclosed that the the commission has set up enrolment centres in over 31 countries so as to enable Nigerians in diaspora to register.

The Minister implored Nigerians including legal residents to enroll for their NINs and link their SIMs during this extension period as it will be required to assess more services in the country.

Pantami reiterated the commitment of the Federal Government to support the Nigerian Communications Commission and the National Identity Management Commission in ensuring quality service delivery.
