Yesterday, Facebook’s CEO, Mark Zuckerberg announced to the world that the company is rebranding its name from “Facebook” to “Meta”.The tech giant revealed that the name change aligns with its growing focus on the metaverse, which refers to effort to combine virtual and augmented reality technologies in a new online realm.

Since the rebranding was announced, commentators and industry watchers have aired their reactions to the name change. Some people believe that the name change is a way of distracting users from the myriad of problems confronting the brand in recent months while some others made jokes and memes to make scathing statements about the development.

Twitter’s CEO Jack Dorsey, whose platform has also faced criticisms in times past, also took a swipe at his rival.

Facebook however, did not announce any executive changes, but on Zuckerberg’s personal Facebook page, his job title was changed to “Founder and CEO at Meta.”

The company has also revealed that it plans to begin trading under the stock ticker MVRS from December 1, 2021.

It would be recalled that a week ago, Boom Television reported Facebook’s plan to undergo a name rebrand.
