Twitter has announced plans to set up a team called Twitter Crypto which would intervene and represent the company on blockchain issues as well as help creators earn or accept money through cryptocurrency.
The move will not come as a surprise to many twitter users as Twitter’s CEO, Jack Dorsey’ s bio on his Twitter account reads ‘#Bitcoin’. Moreso,Twitter announced in September that it would enable creators on its network to be tipped in Bitcoin.
The company has hired Tess Rinearson to be the Team Engineering Lead to set a strategy for the future of crypto at Twitter.
Rinearson disclosed that the team which, would be working with Bluesky, an independent Twitter-funded platform, will first explore how the team can support the growing interest among creators to use decentralised apps to manage virtual goods and currencies as well as support their work and communities.
The team will also explore how ideas from crypto communities can help push the boundaries of what’s possible with identity, community, ownership and more.
The company stated further that it will also explore the possibility of crypto payments for other features like its Ticketed Spaces.
