The world’s largest hydro-floating solar farm has began generating power in Thailand.

The floating solar farm which is about 70 soccer fields in size consist of 145,000 solar panels that harnesses power from the sun during the day and three turbines that convert energy from flowing water at night.

This massive floating solar farm which sits upon the Sirindhorn dam, about 660 kilometres east of the capital city Bangkok is the first of 16 projects planned in key Thai reservoirs with a combined capacity of 2.7 gigawatts.

The $34 million solar farm is part of the country’s push for more renewable energy sources to reduce its reliance on natural energy which is currently the biggest source of electricity generation as the country moves to achieve carbon neutral status by 2050.
