Zoom Video Communications Inc. has disclosed in a statement that it will begin to charge its Nigerian users 7 .5% value added tax from January 1 2022.

This announcement came after Facebook earlier said that its Nigerian users will pay the same amount for Facebook ads from January 1, 2022.

The company said that the additional charge is due to the new VAT policy in Nigeria. The VAT charges will apply to those buying ads for businesses or personal purposes.

The statement added ‘if you are registered for VAT and provide your VAT ID, your VAT ID will show up on your ad receipt. Customers are advised to provide their Taxpayers Identification Numbers (TIN).

Zoom will begin applying VAT to invoices and remitting the VAT collected through Zoom’s VAT registration in Nigeria in accordance with the new rules relating to VAT for non-resident Suppliers of Electronic Supplied Services.

The company said that it will only collect VAT for invoices generated on or after January 1, 2022. Invoices generated before the said date will not count.
