American mobility service provider, Uber Technologies Inc. has charged to court on wednesday by the U.S. government for charging passengers with disabilities “wait time” fee and declining their refund requests.

According to the complaint filed against the company in a Federal court in San Francisco, Uber’s failure to “make rational modifications” to its wait-time fee policy and ensure “fair price” for passengers with disabilities who need more time to board vehicles is discriminatory under the Americans with Disabilities Act.

Responding through its Spokesman, Matt Kallman, Uber expressed that wait-time fees are charged to all boarders to recompense the driver after two minutes of waiting, but it was never modified for passengers who are ready for pickup at their designated location but needs a little time to get into the vehicle.

The company stated further that it recently updated its app to automatically reject wait-time fees for any rider who certifies they are disabled.

Uber Technologies, Inc. is based in San Francisco with operations in over 900 metropolitan areas worldwide.
