In a bid to protect public health from COVID-19 and other variants, the UK Government has announced in a statement that UK Visa and Immigration (UKVI) will suspend the processing of visitor’s visa application in all red list countries which, includes Nigeria until travel bans are lifted.

The announcement came hours after the UK added Nigeria to its travel red list which restricted Nigerians who do not have UK citizenship or residence permit from travelling to the country.

According to the British High Commission, the visitor’s visa cover travel to the UK for tourism, visiting family and friends, short-term business activities and studies, under 6 months.

The Commission stated further that only in compelling and compassionate situations will visitor’s visas and entry permit be issued to visit the UK from a country on the red list. The travel ban however, remains in place.
