The Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation has disclosed in a statement that the Federal Government of Nigeria is set to partner with the People’s Republic of China on renewable clean energy that will boost electricity supply in rural parts of the country.

The Minister of State for Science, Technology and Innovation, Mohammed Abdullahi, on behalf of the ministry received a donation of solar panel equipment from the Department of Commerce of Yanan Province and Kunming Engineering Corporation Ltd of the People’s Republic of China.

Abdullahi said that discussions are ongoing regarding the MoU with the Chinese Engineering Corporation. He added that the support received from China was going to help stop the trend of rural-urban migration in Nigeria.

Adullahi said that the ministry would appoint a committee to look at the process of selecting beneficiaries in the rural areas to see how they could be deployed.

A Representative of China’s Principal Surveyor of Wind Energy, Ji Yuxin said that the proposed partnership is expected to build and upgrade centres of excellence in renewable energy technologies across the country which includes green energy, wind, hydro, bio-energy, solar, energy efficiency and management.
