Dr. Michael Narvey, a paediatrician at the Children’s Hospital Research Institute of Manitoba in Canada has discovered a woman with a baby growing in her liver. The discovery which the doctor describes as the first he has ever seen went viral on TikTok.
Ectopic pregnancy, that is baby growing outside the womb is not a new case but the woman had an extremely rare version of an ectopic pregnancy. Aside having the baby growing where it shouldn’t, vaginal bleeding, pelvic and abdomen pain as the baby grows are symptoms of this kind of ectopic pregnancy.
This case has been proven dangerous for both mothers and babies as the embryo is not able to develop properly outside the uterus. In most situations, doctors manage to save mothers while her unborn child cannot be rescued.
Dr. Karan Raj, another doctor on the social media platform pointed out similar case that he came across. He said it was the scariest CT scans he has ever seen as a 27 year old woman had a 23 weeks baby in the right lobe of the liver.
Raj pointed out that the liver is a highly vascular structure, any compressive force placed on it cpuld result in massive internal bleeding.
