A former Japanese princess, Mako Komuro, had given up her royal status to marry her “commoner”lover, Kei. Komuro was pictured on Sunday boarding a plane to the United States to begin a new life in New York with her husband.

Komuro reportedly disclosed at a news conference how Kei has become a very important and indispensable part of her existence.

The couple met ten years ago and had been engaged for four years while they were studying at Tokyo’s International Christian University.
The couple, who are both aged 30, got wedded at a small ceremony on October 26, which made Princess Mako forfeit her royal status.

This means that Mako’s 15-year-old brother will now take the ascend when the Emperor dies.
