Toyota automotive company announced on Monday its plan to build a new battery plant worth up to $1.29 billion for electronic vehicles in North Carolina.

The plant is expected to create 1,750 jobs in the state.

The Japanese multinational automotive company has said the facility is capable of producing sufficient lithium-ion batteries for 200,000 electric and hybrid cars a year. The plant which, will be built around Greensboro in Central North Carolina is expected to begin production by 2025 and will start with four production lines.

Being one of the world’s largest automakers, Toyota hopes to eventually add two more production lines which would increase the production capacity to packs for 1.2 million vehicles.

In a Press Release, the CEO of Toyota Motor, North America, Ted Ogawa, disclosed that the new plan is the beginning of a mutually beneficial partnership with the Tar Heel state as the company embarks on a journey to achieve carbon neutrality and provide mobility for all.

The automobile company stated that it selected North Carolina for the new plant based on renewable energy availability as well as support from local stakeholders, including governments, utilities, partners, and others.
