Amazon has revealed plans to launch its first prototype internet – from – space- venture, called Project Kuiper, in late 2022.

Project Kuiper is part of Amazon’s plan to build a network of 3,236 satellites in low earth orbit to provide high-speed internet to any part of the world. Early service from Kuiper is set to begin as soon as Amazon has 578 satellites in orbit.

The tech giant has filed a request with the Federal Communications Commission to launch and operate its first two prototype satellites, named KuiperSat-1 and KuiperSat-2 and these satellites will be launched with ABL Space on its RS1 rocket.

Kuiper is created to directly compete with SpaceX’s Starlink network, OneWeb, and others. Amazon will rely on small rockets to get prototypes of its satellite constellation into space.

Industry experts have expressed that the project would transform intenet access around the world moving forward.
