President Muhammadu Buhari today signed the Appropriation Bill of N17.127 trillion and the 2021 Finance Bill into law at the Council Chambers, Presidential Villa, Abuja.

The ceremony was graced by the Senate President, Dr Ahmed Lawan, Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila, the Minister of Finance, Budget and National Planning, Mrs. Zainab Ahmed, and other members of the Federal Executive Council.

Speaking at the event, the President disclosed that the just signed 2022 Budget has an increase of N735.85 billion over the initial Executive proposal of a total expenditure of N16.391 trillion. The budget now provides for the aggregate expenditure of N17.127 trillion.

However, N186.53 billion of the increase was an additional critical expenditure that the President had directed the Minister of Finance, Budget, and National Planning to forward to the National Assembly.

Buhari mentioned that the Minister will provide the public with the details of the budget as passed by the National Assembly and signed by him.

Meanwhile, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, has expressed that the President finds it worrisome that several changes were made by the National Assembly to the 2022 Executive Budget proposal.
