The Minister of Water Resources, Suleiman Adamu has revealed that Nigeria has secured a loan of $700 million from the World Bank for water projects in the country. This was disclosed during the maiden Reward and Recognition awards ceremony hosted in Abuja.

Lack of access to portable water is a major problem in Nigeria as the importance of water cannot be underestimated.

Adamu stated that most water related problems are the responsibilities of the state governments and the Federal Government is just to provide support to states.

He added that Kaduna, Ekiti, Plateau, Bauchi, Delta and Kastina will benefit from the first tranche of the loan.

Adamu further expressed confidence that the National Water Resources Bill which is currently before the National Assembly would be passed by 2022.
