The Port Standing Task Team (PSTT) has introduced new guidelines for government agencies in the supervision of cargoes at Nigeria’s ports, so as to reduce cost-incurring delays in cargo inspection at the country’s seaports.

The guidelines which were released via a memo entitled ‘Joint Examination of Cargo’, directs that all containers should be at their position for examination by 8:30am, while the government agencies’ representatives should conduct the inspection between 9am and 4pm daily.

The memo also states that every legally recognized agency must have its assigned officers present at each terminal at the specified period, noting that the examination will not be delayed for any officer who fails to report for duty.

It was reported that the new guideline will help reduce the rate of avoidable delays, which affect the cost of cargoes.
